Diversity and beauty
Following a thorough evaluation of the applications submitted in July and August, it is now official: The jury of the Algund Natural Garden Competition has made its decision!
Numerous impressive gardens were examined and evaluated. All citizens of Algund with a natural garden, park, vegetable garden, flowering balcony, or green roof promoting biodiversity and offering a favorable environment for bees could enter the competition in the spring of 2024. The expert jury, consisting of Mayor Ulrich Gamper, biologist Ulrich Kiem, gardener Stefan Ebenkofler, and herb expert Melanie Lochmann, conducted an on-site inspection of the proposed green space to assess whether and to what extent the care criteria had been met. Points were awarded for each requirement deemed compliant. The higher the number of compliant requirements, the more points could be earned. The winner was determined based on the total number of points collected in each category.
Garden and/or Park: 1. Hotel Maratscher 2. Gapphof 3. Blumenthalerhof
Balcony flowers and/or building greenery (green roofs and facade greening): 1. Leiter am Waal and 1. Gapphof (tied) 2. Schloss Plars
The winners impressed the jury with the variety of plants, sustainable maintenance methods, and the creation of valuable habitats for wildlife.
A thank you to all participants
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all participants for their enthusiasm and commitment to making our community greener and more beautiful. Your gardens enrich Algund and demonstrate how beautiful and varied natural gardening can be.
The importance of natural gardens The competition has shown how important natural gardens are for our environment. They help promote biodiversity, improve soil quality, and provide a valuable habitat for many animals.
A look to the future We are already excited about the next natural garden competition and hope that even more citizens will participate!
