The late summer in Algund: apple harvest and fresh mountain air

The freshness of the mountains, the glow of the apples

In mid-August, when the temperatures become a little milder and the air on the mountains clearer again, we are sure that late summer has arrived in the Garden Village Algund. Now it is time to enjoy the beautiful mountain panorama once again, because the cool air allows a great panoramic view of the surrounding mountain landscape of Algund and of the wonderful apple fields, which start to grow fruit. Soon the apple harvest begins and the apple farmers get ready for the most exciting time of the year.

Red, Round and Ripe

From mid-August to November, the apples are picked by hand from the apple trees, depending on the variety and the associated degree of ripeness. A handcraft that we are very proud of here in South Tyrol, because the apple has a long tradition here. South Tyrolean farmers attach great importance to the freshness and quality of their products and to their transparent production.
Throughout the year, the farmers take care of their apple orchards with heart and soul, so that they can present their best apples in late summer. During the year, some farms even offer guided apple tours, where you can be up close when South Tyrolean apple farmers share insider knowledge with you.

Apple juice and apple pie: the taste of Algund

As soon as the apples are picked, they end up on our plates. Whether as apple juice, apple compote, apple strudel or applesauce, through the different varieties there is the right apple for every dish. Whether sour and juicy, or melting and sweet - here everyone finds the right apple for his taste.

Locality is very important to us. Our apples are not only characterized by authenticity, but they also shape our landscape and our culture. The apple is part of our tradition, an integral part of South Tyrolean cuisine and, finally, of us.
Every apple tells its own story. Depending on the variety and cultivation, no apple ripens the same way twice. Every apple is unique and so is its story.
