Pedalling the Via Claudia Augusta
Pedalling the Via Claudia Augusta
2,000 years ago, the Via Claudia Augusta was a Roman imperial road that connected the Adriatic Sea with the Danube in the Alps. Today it is one of the most beautiful valley cycle paths in South Tyrol. Along the route upstream and downstream of the Adige River between Lake Resia and Bolzano, many sights tempt you to stop off: the picturesque villages of the Merano region, the castles of Juval and Castelbello, Churburg Castle or Sigmundskron with the MMM Messner Mountain Museum. You can also start your journey home between Mals and Merano with the Val Venosta Train. This also brings mountain bikers closer to their destinations: the Texel Group, the Monte Sole and Monte Tramontana Mountains, the Passeier, Ulten and Schnals valleys.
