Algund is making its way to a Sustainable Tourism Destination
Together for our future
Sustainable tourism is no longer a mere trend, but a necessity for forward-thinking communities. The Algund Tourist Office has embraced this challenge and is striving for the highest level (Level 3) of the South Tyrol Sustainability Label. This is based on the international standards of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and has been specifically adapted for South Tyrol.
Barbara Meraner, the Sustainability Manager at the Algund Tourist Office, answers some questions about the sustainability label for Algund tourism.
Why does Algund need a sustainability label?
In South Tyrol, twelve destinations have already received the coveted label, with another 16 in the certification process. For Algund, this means not only an opportunity to position itself as a responsible tourism destination, but also to actively shape the future of the community. The label is more than just a certificate – it represents a comprehensive rethinking in the entire community, and this is very important to me for the future of our children.
Sustainability is not a trend but a promise to maintain our unique landscape and village, which we call home.
What changes specifically for Algund?
The certification covers various areas:
• Protection of our unique natural and cultural landscape
• Promotion of local economic cycles
• Efficient use of resources such as water and energy
• Preservation of our traditions and cultural values
What are the advantages for the village community?
The sustainability label brings concrete benefits for all Algund residents:
• Strengthening the local economy by promoting local products
• Long-term safeguarding of jobs
• Improvement of quality of life through environmental protection measures
• Preservation of our cultural landscape for future generations
Sustainability thrives on cooperation. How can citizens get involved in the process of obtaining the sustainability label for Algund, and what role does the Tourist Office play?
The path to the sustainability label can only be taken together. The Algund Tourist Office and the municipality of Algund invite all citizens to participate in this important process. Because sustainable tourism means one thing above all: harmonizing the needs of locals and guests without jeopardizing resources for future generations. Interested citizens who would like to actively participate can contact the Sustainability Manager of the Algund Tourist Office, Barbara Meraner, directly: barbara.meraner@algund.com
Together we can establish Algund as an exemplary sustainable tourism destination.
