General description

The vineyards along the Algunder Waal and the Schlundensteinweg are a special example of a cultural landscape shaped by the diligence of farmers. On the Algund Wine Trail, the history of the cultural vineyard landscape comes to life and is tangible for hikers. The simple panels describe the Algunder Waal, the old grape varieties and the work of the vineyard watchman known as the Saltner. His job was to watch over the ripe harvest.

Route description

Start at the dairy in Algund/Lagundo and take hiking trail no. 7 past Mitterplars/Plars di Mezzo and Schloss Plars castle to reach the Algund Waalweg canal trail. This is where path no. 21 starts which leads you through the forest to the Schlundenstein rock, a large rock from the Ice Age. Turn right and go down to Café Konrad (trail no. 25A). Then take the asphalt road towards Algund/Lagundo for a few metres until the Burgweg trail no. 20 branches off to the right. This wide cobbled trail above Algund/Lagundo takes you back to the valley station of the chairlift to Vellau/Velloi from where you take the sidewalk along the road to Algund/Lagundo to return to the village centre.
