The spa town of Merano next to the Passer

Close to the spa town of Merano

In the footsteps of Empress Sissi of Austria

The spa town of Merano - almost an all-rounder when it comes to nature, culinary delights and culture. And the best thing about it: Algund is only a stone's throw away. And it is this proximity that makes the garden village and its neighbourhoods so special. Because Merano has its very own charm, its own Mediterranean-alpine flair. Between palm trees and alpine pastures. It is not for nothing that Empress Sissi felt so at home here as well...

On foot from Algund to Merano

The Algunder Waalweg Trail as a connecting section

It starts at the parking lot at Töll engrave, right below the district of Plars - the Algunder Waalweg, an irrigation channel path which takes you from Algund to the spa town in a picturesque way. Already at the beginning you can imagine that the walk along the narrow path will be a (panoramic) experience. Accompanied by gentle vineyards, palm trees, deciduous forests and a view of the Merano valley basin, you will reach the Merano district of Gratsch after about one and a half hours.

Here you can decide whether to take the path to the suburbs or to continue walking along the Tappeinerweg Trail to the town centre and the Powder Tower. Either way, it's a beautiful walk that is especially recommended in spring and autumn! Not least because of the pleasant temperatures on the sunny hillside...

With public transport to Merano

Quick to the centre of Merano thanks to bus and train

You can safely leave your car at home during your holiday in Algund. After all, it deserves a little time out as well. If you want to get to Merano by public transport, take the bus or the train. You can either choose the train (line 250), which will take you to the city in less than 5 minutes, or you can choose the bus connections 213 or 237. Alternatively, there is the Algund city bus, which runs every half hour from Algund via Algund village to the Merano train station and the Merano thermal baths.

Merano - the perfect combination of mountains with snow and palm trees on the promenades. An intimate liaison between southern ease and the down-to-earthiness of the Alps.

Small, but perfect

Algund, the small garden village, wins you over with its great variety.
