Meran High Mountain Road

Meran High Mountain Road

Circular hiking route around the Texel Group

The Meran High Mountain Road is one of the most beautiful high-Alpine circular hikes in Europe. The Meran High Mountain Road is 100 kilometres long and surrounds the Texel Group Nature Park , South Tyrol's largest nature park, at an altitude of approx. 1,400 metres.

There are constantly differences in height of several hundred metres which have to be overcome. The Texel Group lies between the Italian-Austrian border, the Meran basin, the Passeier Valley and the Schnals Valley.

Stunning views over the valleys lying below and the towering mountain peaks

The hike is divided into a Southern and a Northern part. In the Northern part of the Meran High Mountain Road you can reach the highest point on the Eisjöchl, at an altitude of 2,895 metres. But you can also climb up to 1,839 metres in the Southern part, for example, at the Hochganghaus Hut.

Depending on your physical condition and the stages you choose you will need between 3 and 8 days for the entire circular hiking route. But don't worry, along the way there are many snack bars, inns and refuges which offer South Tyrolean delicacies, overnight accommodation, but also protection from rain and thunderstorms. Please check out the opening hours of the individual huts. Algund lies on the Southern part of the Meran High Mountain Road: the sunny side: The Southern part of the hike leads along the Southern slopes of the Texel Group.

Enjoy the breathtaking panorama of the impressive cultural landscapes of the lower Vinschgau as well as the Burggrafenamt and Passeier Valley. In general, it can be said that the Southern part of the Meran High Mountain Road is accessible from May to November, but some parts are accessible all year round depending on weather conditions.
